    Sala el Jade

    This room presents themes referring to the jade elaboration process, as well as the routes of trade, symbolism, social use and shamanism, using groups of objects related to these topics. You’ll be able to travel the routes used to commercialize jade in a map; also, learn the way jade was worked in pre-Columbian times, the rituals and ceremonies associated to it.

    Sala el Día

    This space shows activities related to the everyday life of people: social organization, related to their natural surroundings and the animals represented in the collection’s objects. Topics included are architecture, navigation, as well as fishing, hunting and agriculture. Tridimensional resources are used to recreate a community’s daily life

    Sala la Noche

    Topics in this room are related to the underworld, the bat as mythological animal; deals also with issues of war and funerary rituals, and cultural beliefs linked to the mystery of the night. This space is also about burial rituals trying to approach us to a world vision that is still present in our cultural traditions despite being precedent to these

    Sala Memoria

    Topics treated in this space recreate the music, technology and human diversity in their gender and sexuality roles through objects and the pre-Columbian attire. Besides that, our ancestral memory is voiced using an ethnographical collection of the indigenous people of Costa Rica.

  • COLLECTION


    Sala Acopio

    This space safeguards objects in different materials found in three archaeological regions of the country: Greater Nicoya, Central Region, and Greater Chiriquí. The objects shown here will serve as framework for future investigations, temporary and itinerant exhibitions; hence it’s considered a collection in movement.
